Feeling totally overwhelmed by the process of setting up a baby registry? That’s understandable, babies need so much stuff, and it can be tough to know where to begin when compiling your list of baby registry essentials for your future bundle of joy. You want what's best for your little one, but as a first timer you likely have a ton of questions. Creating a baby registry is a smart way to ensure you have all the essentials for your little one. Below i shared my experience, what i used and loved. In most cases I've tried different brands for the same type of product and I'm only suggesting the one i liked. Let’s dive into the details:
What is a Baby Registry? A baby registry is a curated list of baby products that you’ll need when your baby arrives. You create this list and register it with a store (such as Amazon, Target, or Walmart). Friends and family members can then purchase items from your registry as gifts for you and your baby. It’s a fantastic way to receive the things you need while allowing your loved ones to contribute.
Where to Register:
Amazon Baby Registry: Amazon is a great choice because it has an extensive selection of baby items, often at competitive prices. Other options include Target, BuyBuy Baby, Walmart, and Motherhood Maternity.
What to Include in Your Baby Registry: While the specific needs vary based on personal preferences, here are some essentials:
1. Diapers and Wipes: Stock up on different sizes. I switched to Coterie after my baby was getting red marks around her chunky thighs from the other brands. They are super soft, and made out of ultra-soft, apparel-grade materials, and we still use them. We also use their wipes as well. They are little pricey but worth every penny. Diapers are one of the most expensive baby care items you will use once the baby arrives. But you can use your baby shower to minimize the cost by arranging a Diaper Raffle contest. The more diapers a person brings, the more raffle tickets they get. Keep in mind to tell your guests to bring diapers in bigger sizes because babies grow quickly in the early months.
2. Baby Clothes: When it comes to baby clothes, there are so many adorable options to choose from. Remember to choose soft, breathable fabrics for your little one’s comfort, and consider practical items like onesies, sleepers, and hats. Enjoy dressing up your precious bundle of joy! Here are some suggestions of baby clothing you will need: Onesies, Sleepers, Socks, Hats, Mittens, Going Home Outfit
3. Feeding Supplies:
- Bottles - I recommend getting anti colic bottles, they are designed to reduce feeding issues like colic, gas, and reflux. I used the Philips AVENT Anti-Colic Baby Bottles and the baby loved them, best part , they don't have to many parts to wash like some other brands. Another good option is the Dr. Brown's Anti-Colic Baby Bottle
- Bibs, they will protect the baby's clothes from getting stains and Pacifiers (if desired). Some babies find comfort in pacifiers.
-
Regular Breast Pump, I used the Spectra Gold, you can control each side separately, it’s very convenient when one nipple is sore. The suction is pretty strong, and pumping is quick.
For a Hands-Free Breast Pump, I used the Elvie Stride Hospital-Grade Breast Pump. At first i didn't think i need a hands-free pump, but i was totally wrong, especially when you are on the go or working, this thing is a life saver. You definitely should add it to your baby registry. - Another thing that it's a must have is a Bottle Washer/Sterilizer, that's one item you do not want to skip adding to your registry. I thought i won't need it and i was wrong again, I quickly realized that and ordered one, it is really a life saver. Besides the bottles i washed all breast pump parts as well. I loved the Momcozy Advanced Auto Baby Bottle Washer - Sterilizer & Dryer Combo. Automatically washes, sterilizer, and dries baby bottles, pump parts, baby tableware, and more, saving you precious time to spend with your family.
- The Boppy Nursing Pillow is great for moms with c-section especially. It wraps around your body, and it makes breast and bottle feeding much more comfortable. It helps raise your baby to a comfortable height level whether you’re sitting on a sofa or on chairs with arms.
Later on, when your baby starts eating real food, you will need Bowls, Suction Plates, Forks and Spoons.
4. Sleep Essentials:
- Crib - All our furniture was from Evolur and we loved how the nursery turned out. The Mattress we used for the Crib was the Newton Baby Breathable Crib Mattress. For sheets we used Newton Baby Organic Fitted Crib Sheets
-
Bassinet - The HALO bassinet is amazing, but pricey, if you can afford it, it is well worth it. More affordable alternative is the ANGELBLISS Baby Bassinet. If you are looking for a bedside sleeper this Portable Mini Baby Crib will grow with your baby. Another great choice is the BABY JOY 5-in-1 Pack and Play. Later on, when your little one is ready for a toddler floor bed, the Montessori Floor Bed for Kids is what we transitioned our little girl on her first birthday, and it was the best decision we made for her sleep. As a travel Pack and Play we used the Guava Lotus Travel Crib. We love it and it is very easy to travel with. Another great option is the Newton Baby Travel Crib. It is actually little bigger than the Guava and you'll get to use it longer. The optional bassinet insert (sold separately) provides added versatility during baby's first months. Whether you're visiting family or taking a road trip, these travel cribs are easy to take along and set up.
- Swaddle Blankets - The best newborn Swaddle in my opinion is The Ollie Swaddle. Your baby will sleep for hours the first night and you will wish you got it sooner. Best swaddle we’ve ever had for a newborn. Another really good swaddle is the Love To Dream Swaddle. This one is really good if your Baby preferers to sleep with arms up, but can't scratch their precious face at the same time. Another great option is the SNOO Sleep Sack, it prevents the baby from rolling over.
- White Noise Machine- Hatch Rest+Sound Machine is what we have in our baby's room. Works great, it makes midnight feedings soothing and the dark less scary with a calming glow.
5. For Diaper Changing Station you will need a Changing pad, The Keekaroo Peanut Changer is amazing. This is a must have in my opinion!!!!! Totally worth the money. You will not want to change your baby's diaper anywhere else. Best part is you can move it around and change your little one anywhere comfortably.
- You will also need a wipe warmer dispenser. The one I love is the Bellababy Wipe Wamer. Originally, I bought the hiccapop Baby Wipe Warmer and it broke within few weeks of using it. This one work perfectly without any problems since i got it, and it's been year and a half at least and i still use it. It warms up quickly too.
- Another must have is a diaper pail. Munchkin UV Diaper Pail is the way to go. No stinky diaper scent coming from this pail, i love the UV feature, so I know the germs are being killed after every use.
- If you like to keep your changing station neat and organized, you will probably love the Munchkin® Diaper Change Organizer, it holds diapers, wipes, ointments and more
- By the changing station i keep my baby skincare, that's where we come right after giving her a bath. For a diaper cream i use Earth Mama Organic Diaper Balm. One of the few products we buy time and time again. It takes care of any irritation seemingly overnight! Simply the best!! I gift this to every new mom. If your baby suffers from eczema, one of the best creams that will clear it is Tubby Todd All Over Ointment. I have tried everything in this ointment was the only thing that cleared it. I still use it as a daily lotion, and we are thankful that the eczema has not come back since we started using it. My daughter also had cradle cap and the pediatrician recommended Era Organics Healing Ointment. This product is amazing for cradle cap, it cleared it right up. I also used Organic Coconut Oil to help it. Baby powder is a must, especially in the summer. The only one i ever tried and still use it is the Era Organics Talc-Free Baby Powder, because it works perfect, and it is made out of clean ingredients. 7. Health and Safety Items: Thermometer, baby nail clippers, baby-safe laundry detergent, etc. I created a category on our website about Health and Safety. Please Click Here to see the full list of items i used and recommend.
8. Bathing Supplies: When it comes to baby bathing supplies, you’ll want to ensure you have everything you need for a safe and comfortable bath time. I always choose products that are gentle on my baby’s delicate skin and free from harsh chemicals. My favorite shampoo & body wash is Babo Botanicals Sensitive Baby Shampoo & Wash. I still use it on my toddler and never had any issues. The bathtub i chose was Frida Baby 4-in-1 Grow-with-Me Baby Bathtub. My baby was safe in it & had room to grow. Eventually she outgrew the bathtub, and we bought her a Baby Bath Seat. This was when she was able to sit up perfectly on her own. For a peace of mind i purchased a Bath Thermometer to monitor the water temperature to ensure it’s comfortable for my baby. Another product i use during bathtime is Rinsing Cup, so i can rinse the baby without splashing water in her face. After the bath i used Soft Hooded Baby Towel to keep my baby warm after the bath.
9. High Chair: When your baby starts eating solids you will need a high chair, and the right high chair is essential for comfortable and safe mealtimes. When choosing one always consider factors like durability, longevity, and ease of cleaning. We have the Tripp Trapp High Chair. This chair is awesome! They are on the expensive side, but they are absolutely worth it! They grow with your children, are super easy to clean, extremely sturdy, and look great compared to a lot of the other highchairs on the market. Another option for a high chair i found with great reviews is the Peg Perego Siesta
10. Baby monitors are incredibly useful for keeping an eye (and ear) on your little one, especially when you can’t be in the same room all the time. I started with the Infant Optics Baby Monitor, but i wasn't happy with it because the signal was out of range when i was in the backyard, and sometimes wouldn't even work in the bedroom, since it was located in the opposite side of the house from the baby's room. The next one i tried and still have and love is the Panasonic Baby Monitor with Camera. With this one i can do yard work and keep an eye on my little one. I definitely recommend the Panasonic over the Infant Optics.
11. Baby Carrier or Wrap:
-
Baby carriers are more structured with adjustable straps and buckles. They provide support for both you and your baby and they are great for bonding and hands-free movement. Look for carriers with padded shoulder straps and lumbar support if you plan on wearing your baby for extended periods. When my baby was little i got the Ergobaby Embrace Cozy Newborn Essentials Baby Carrier. It was easy to put on and the baby wouldn't get sweaty, especially because she was born in the summer, and we get to use it when it was really hot. After she grew out of it i tried 5 different carriers from different brands and she hated all of them. I was about to give up on carriers when i decided to try something different. I bought the Bebamour Baby Carrier Newborn to Toddler and that changed everything. She loved being on it, it was like a little seat for her, also made my life easier too so i didn't have to take the stroller out when i ran quick errands.
- Wraps create a warm embrace with your baby, especially during the early newborn months. They offer versatility and comfort, but they have a bit of a learning curve when it comes to wrapping techniques. I didn't use any wraps so i can't share my experience with them. There are so many different options out there it is hard to decide which one you should go with. I found one that has the best reviews, it is the Boba Baby Wrap Carrier. Ultimately, the choice between a baby carrier and a wrap depends on your personal preferences, lifestyle, and the age of your baby. Some families opt for both—a wrap for the newborn stage and a soft structured carrier for older babies or toddlers. Whichever one you choose, enjoy those snuggles with your little one.
12. Toys- When i was creating my baby registry, i included a variety of toys that will engage and stimulate my baby as she grows. Click Here to see the complete list of toys i used. Here are some toys to consider adding to your baby registry: Baby Banana Training Teether, Fidget Popper Sensory Toy, Montessori Silicone Toy, Shape Sorter Baby Toy, Baby Playmat, Suction Cup Spinner Toys, and the must have for tummy time, the Crawling Crab Baby Toy and the Tummy Time Mirror. There are many more that i suggested, please check our website for a full list.
13. Books- Building a baby’s library is a delightful way to encourage their love for reading.
Here are some must-have baby books that you can consider adding to your baby shower registry, and if you would like to see the complete list i used, please Click Here: Baby Shark, Where Is Baby's Belly Button?,
14. Entertainment: When it comes to baby entertainment, there are several delightful items you can consider adding to your baby registry. These will not only keep your little one engaged but also aid in their development.
Here are some must-have options: Ergobaby or BabyBjorn Bouncer. I had the BabyBjorn and my little girl loved it. The Graco or the Munchkin Baby Swing, Infant Lounger, Baby Play Gym & Activity Mat, Activity center, this one was my baby's favorite toy. Later on, when your baby start showing interest in walking you will need Baby Walker and Jumperoo. I didn't add these last two to my registry but got them later on. It is up to you if you would like to add it to your baby registry. If you don't have a big baby shower i wouldn't, that is just my opinion.
Remember, every family’s needs are unique, so customize your registry based on your lifestyle, preferences, and budget for your family. And congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy! Happy registering!
With love and best wishes
